Organizational Meeting.
I will conduct an organizational meeting for your committee and other team members to develop a schedule and clarify the tasks required for the successful completion of your project. Prior to this meeting you will receive my Advance Planning Packet designed to take the stress out of your project.
Selection of Professionals.
If your entire professional team has not been established I will help you find, interview and select other appropriate professionals for your project. These would include architects, acoustical and lighting consultants, landscapers, organ builders, various artisans and artists and others. My large database will assist us in our search.
If an architect has already been retained, she or he should be invited to participate in the entire education and data collection process and should be involved in the selection of all other professionals.
Educational Program.
I will present a series of illustrated lectures which will examine the creation of sacred space, the ever changing history of art and architecture in your faith tradition, and all the design options appropriate for your current ritual practice. This program helps the participants in the process imagine their own spatial and artistic possibilities. There is ample time for questions, answers and discussion.
Programming.
I will work with your committee and your architect to gather data from your community in order to create a clear statement of your needs and expectations. I will personally address the liturgical implications of this Program.
Schematic Phase.
During this phase I will work closely with your committee and the professional design team (architects and others) in the creation of preliminary concepts for your project, which may include the development of a master plan. I will carefully direct the liturgical factors of the project during this time. At the end of this phase you will have a master plan, renderings, floor plans, and projected cost estimates.
Presentations.
I will assist you and the architect in presenting the schematic or master plan to the larger congregation and other appropriate outside agencies.
Design Development.
During this phase I will continue to work with the architect and your committee on the preparation of construction drawings by guiding the overall liturgical specifications of the project. This would include consultation on the details of the lighting and acoustical plans for the building.
Artistic Direction.
During the design development phase and throughout the remainder of the project I will provide artistic and liturgical direction by working closely with your professional team, artists, artisans and your committees on the design, fabrication and location of all art, furnishings, appointments and instruments for your worship place.
In-House Seminars.
Need more information on designing worship environments? A half day or full day seminars for your entire staff in your own office. These sessions will provide the latest information on ritual requirements for Jewish and Christian houses of prayer and models for working with congregations and other design professionals. Tailor made sessions can be designed to meet your specific needs. CEUs may be possible.
Collaboration.
Putting together a team for your proposal? Upon invitation I would work in a collaborative manner as a member of your design team in projects dealing with worship environments.
Client Education.
Often the client may require liturgical education programs. My illustrated lectures would deal with the history of the place of worship according to the owner's religious tradition and possibilities for building a new space or enhancing the existing one.
Programming.
Writing a Program for a worship environment can be a challenge in terms of the requirements of different religious traditions. I can assist you in writing a thorough documented Program.
Charettes.
Nothing like imagining the possibilities. I can participate in charette sessions with you and the owner to work toward the best solution for each project.
Review of Plans.
